High West Celebrates ‘Repeal Day’ (November 26, 2012)

Party like it’s 1933 with live music, a new winter menu, and a very special whiskey

PARK CITY, UTAH (Nov. 26, 2012) — Two momentous events converge Saturday, Dec. 1, when High West Distillery and Saloon celebrates its third anniversary and National Repeal Day, marking the end of Prohibition in 1933.  High West will celebrate with live music, the debut of a new winter menu, and the release of an experimental batch of Campfire Whiskey.

The party kicks off at 6 p.m.  Be sure to wear your finest Prohibition Era outfit, not to mention your dancing shoes – Flappers are very welcome. One Ton Pig, one of Jackson Hole’s favorite bands, will be taking the stage to perform its acclaimed “fun, down-and-dirty, outlaw-country-bluegrass.” Attendees will also be the first to taste High West’s experimental batch of Campfire Whiskey, sample selections from the restaurant’s winter menu, and enjoy the full range of High West spirits at the saloon’s cash bar. Tickets cost $35 in advance via www.2012HighWestRepealDay.EventBrite.com, and $40 at the door.“

In honoring Repeal Day, we’re celebrating not the alcohol, but our freedom to enjoy life’s pleasures in a responsible manner,” High West proprietor David Perkins said. “This is truly an important occasion for us and I can think of no better way to celebrate than to make available a special limited edition Campfire whiskey, we call Batch XO, that debuted at a special session of the New York WhiskyFest last month.” High West’s Campfire Whiskey is the world’s only (and possibly first) blend of bourbon, rye and Scotch whiskeys – a unique blend that is sweet, spicy, and a little smoky.  Campfire Batch XO, however, was married for an additional four months in very special French and Hungarian toasted oak barrels — hence XO, for “extra oak.” The barrels are normally used for first-growth Bordeaux wines and world-famous Hungarian Tokaji dessert wines.  They contribute a dose of sweet vanilla and wood-spice and add a creamy, luscious mouthfeel.  Only 20 cases of Campfire Batch XO will be released, making the spirit an ever more memorable and meaningful holiday present.

High West’s winter menu is no less delicious. The Dec. 1 debut will offer tastes of skillet-roasted chestnuts, creamy grits with wild mushrooms, Rocky Mountain Scottish eggs, elk pastrami Reuben sandwiches, whiskey-braised Moroccan lamb balls, wiener schnitzel with poblano chipotle sauce, whiskey barrel-smoked Loch Duart salmon, pulled pork, roasted winter vegetables, whiskey cider-braised short-ribs, red velvet OMG anniversary cake, whiskey chocolates, and whiskey cream puffs with mocha fondant.
