Food Tripping to Utah
Utah… So that's the state where almost nobody drinks, right? Think again. In the upscale ski town of Park City, the booze flows freely thanks in part to High West, the state's first distillery since 1870. Former biochemist David Perkins opened it in 2009 with his wife, Jane, after being inspired by a trip to the Maker's Mark distillery in Kentucky (see, mom, these places are educational!).
High West started in a retro saloon in Old Town Park City at the bottom of Park City Resort's Quittin' Time snow run, making it the world's only ski-in distillery – of course, they also serve food. Last year, after racking up numerous awards and even opening a location at the Salt Lake City airport, the company debuted a much larger distillery and tasting room in Wanship, UT, on Blue Sky Ranch, which is the location we visited.
